Glossary
One of the most difficult words to define, and the most rewarding to experience yourself. Perhaps we can just say it's 'going in.' And here a vast world opens - the inner world of beauty, fear, loveliness, and silence. And you are the watcher. Experiences come and go inside, but the watcher remains, detached from all. It's not a matter of splitting yourself into observer and observed - by totally allowing the inner world, watching arises spontaneously. And ultimately there's silence, space, a deep vast fullness, which is yet aware. The Buddha called it "suchness." It also means the practice or act of doing a meditation. It means a certain time period in which you've agreed to allow whatever comes up, and be present to it. Meditation as such may happen during 'a meditation' or may not. But at the same time, your presence there is meditation. Raised areas on the palm, like the fleshy base of the thumb, the 'Mount of Venus'. The willingness to 'tune in'. It's most beneficial for both when it's through the heart, the universal acceptor of 'how it is now'. If you're living your own life experiences deeply, the accepting quality of the heart will automatically arise when you tune in with others. A space in which you're available to the other, can receive impressions, and express them, whether in words, sounds, gibberish, dance, or whatever! It works best when you're centered in yourself at the same time. This has nothing to do with religions, or with any search anybody else has ever made; though sometimes, it's useful to hear about others' experiences. 'The Search' is really only the longing in your own heart. And: "Spirituality is the same thing as Maturity." - Osho The strange penchant of the unconscious for communicating through symbols. These might be visual or auditory. A symbol is a compact representation of a hidden energy. I find that by re-experiencing, becoming the symbol, the hidden secret of it's meaning is released as energy flowing back into the whole. Every object in a dream is ripe with unlived energy. By your living it, it is released from the symbol and re-joins the whole. Like a radio - you're just passively allowing yourself to shift into your own wavelength, whereupon it's easy to 'tune into' someone else's. It's not a doing really, not an effort. It just happens that you 'fall into a tuning', a sensitivity; and it happens a lot through the heart. You're then available to that person's world, and are at the same time centered and resting in your self. "... sensitivity is your birthright." - Osho |
