Sandhya
Each year Sandhya and her partner, Premgit, travel on mostly untravelled paths photographing people and places which are fast disappearing from our planet. In these four beautiful shots, Sandhya delicately records her meetings with rare people and her views of amazing places.
Left: Bonda woman in Orissa (2007). Although the Bonda people are officially Indian they are very different because they are so isolated. In contrast to the usual saree, the women wear only short skirts and thick necklaces of beads around their necks. There are only about 4000 of the tribe left and they survive by fishing and hunting.
Right: Lanten mother and child in Laos (2006)
Left: Varanasi, India (2006). A morning view of the Holy Ganges and one of the burning ghats.
Right: Kyaktiyo, Myanmar (2007). This extraordinary stone shrine is on the top of a mountain and can only be reached by a long uphill climb on foot. It is covered many layers deep with gold leaf placed there by worshipping pilgrims.
