Madhura

Madhura – embroidery is her meditation

After taking a degree in philosophy and treading the stage in the West End, Madhura found herself doing PR for the ashram in Poona 1. It was then that she really got into embroidery; as an antidote to Indian politics she kept a piece of silk in her back pocket to embroider whenever she got the chance. It was the vibrant colour that she needed. She was famous around the ashram for that bright rich glow of colour forever in her hands!

Embroidery on silk became her life-long meditation and after Rajneeshpuram she expanded her skills to painting on fabric and then combining painting and embroidery. Based in Seattle, her unique, very whimsical, art form became popular and she turned it into a successful career – exhibiting and doing commissions in north west America.

She now lives in Somerset exhibiting in local art exhibitions and art fairs. Two of her recent most prominent works could not be photographed as they had been sold to a buyer in London. Colour, embroidery and painting are, she says, her life and her meditation.
