Joyce Jonas is one of America’s leading Jewelry
Specialists and Appraisers.
A regular presenter on the American T.V. programme
‘Antiques Roadshow’ she is also the Organiser of the popular
‘Jewelry Camp’ event held annually in the USA. We
are extremely delighted to have secured her support for our new
venture and know that, as an interesting and knowledgeable speaker,
her sessions will be well appreciated by all those who love

| John Benjamin ,
formerly International Director at Phillips Auctioneers where he was
responsible for the sale programme in London and Geneva.
In 1999 he established his own independent consultancy specialising
in appraisals, lectures, writing and broadcasting. He
regularly appears on the BBC’s ‘Antiques Roadshow’ programme
and in 2003 published his first book “Starting to Collect Antique
Jewellery”. He is currently researching the life and work of
H. G. Murphy for an exhibition at Goldsmiths Hall in London in 2005. |

Janet Zapata is an independent scholar and museum consultant,
specializing in ‘Jewelry’ and ‘Silver’. Author of
several books and a frequent contributor to a variety of
‘Antiques’ publications, she has also been the curator of
many important ‘Jewelry Exhibitions’ and has used her expertise
both in the USA and abroad, in addition to acting as a consultant
with Museums in the U.S.A. and Japan. |
| Svetlana K. Lloyd trained
for the ballet and, following her career with the Sadler’s Wells
Ballet Co, she modelled for Christian Dior in Paris. With
experience in Fabrics, Fashion & Jewellery she has combined her
expertise to become a Lecturer with N.A.D.F.A.S. and has travelled
extensively in Europe, the USA and Australia to impart her
knowledge. |

Ulysses Grant Dietz
has
been the Curator of the Decorative Arts Department at the Newark
Museum since 1980, and he has arranged over 80 exhibitions, many
with specialist Jewelry subjects, & also published
numerous articles. The latest in this line in 2004 is
the Jewelry Exhibition at the Newark Museum entitled
'Baubles, Bangles and Bling Bling' and the items in that show will
be reflected in his joint session with Janet Zapata, as listed in
the programme.
The exhibition is open in the 2004 but will close before our event,
so use their web site to access information if you would like to go
and see it.

| Beth Carver Wees is
Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York, where she is responsible for the
collections of American silver, jewelry and other metals.
Formerly the Curator of Decorative Arts at the Sterling and Francine
Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and author of
"English, Irish and Scottish Silver", a book of that
collection, she is active in a number of professional organisations
& has also lecturing internationally. |

3 day 'additional programme'
| We have a limited number of places (max 12) on
the second part of our event which is taking place in New York and
runs from Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th October. Each day will
run from aprox 10.30a.m. to 5.30p.m. This section of the programme includes visits to the Museums,
Shows, jewellery stores & makers, & any relevant
auction houses where sales may be planned. This part of
the program is intended to complement the program content at
Somerset Hills. We can also arrange an
opportunity for ‘new’ visitors to take in some of the famous
local sights. |

Whilst the event in New Jersey would be available
on a full board basis for those in residence at the hotel, the New York
part may have facilities for accommodation only. U.K. participants will find that the variety of food
available in New York makes individual choice a necessity, and hotels do
not normally offer 'all-inclusive' packages for you to book. All
Participants may attend the New York program on a non residential basis if
they prefer.
FEES:
Accepted in U.S. Dollars ($) & sterling (£) only
A
Daily Fee for non residents in New Jersey, running from 10a.m. till
6.00p.m, is $200 (£125.00)
per
person per day, to include full the program, light refreshments &
lunch. When booking for all 4
days a
discount is available WHEN PAID IN FULL by Sept. 1st-
the cost is $750 (£470.00)
A
4 day residential stay from arrival, followed by the ‘Welcome
Reception’ on Wednesday evening
until 6.00p.m. on Sunday involves an additional hotel charge of
$640(£380.00).
Residents
Total is $1,390 (£850.00) if paid for by Sept. 1st OR
$1,440 (£870.00)
after that date.

Places on the New York Program.
The
cost is $390. (£230) for 3 days and covers the programme only.
These 12 places are intended for participants who have already
participated in the 4 day programme in New
Jersey, & only when booked
and paid for in advance. N.Y. Hotel costs are variable, and all applicants
should indicate
their budget level if they wish the Academy to assist with their
enquiries. Bookings are on
a
'room only' basis, so ‘singles’ are more expensive than those sharing.
Participants
may book for the whole event or for the first section only i.e. the 4 days
in New Jersey.
FULL payment
for all events is due by 30th September 2004.
NOTE.
The Academy reserves the right to alter the £1's sterling costs where
exchange rates alter.

Cancellations
before 30th September attract a $150.00 ( £100.00)
charge/handling fee.
Regrettably
we will be unable to provide any refunds after the 30th September, so
please
insure yourselves for loss in the event of a problem arising that prevents
you from attending.

The
Academy of Antiques and Fine Arts
has
been running events since 1996 and during that time has operated
not only
in
University Colleges but also run hotel based events.
The
majority of our 'Antiques Breaks' have been run in the U.K. visiting
Wales,
Scotland and England, with venues in both Oxford and
Cambridge
University
Colleges, and fine hotels in Edinburgh, London,
Chester, Caerleon and
Bath.
We
have covered a wide variety of subjects during these events and have
also
arranged buying and/or touring breaks for participants – one based
in a
Chateau
in the Loire Valley, France, and another in hotels in New York,
Boston
and
New England, USA.
This is our first 'Jewels' Event and we are intending to make
it an
annual occurrence
around the same time every year.
